WideSky helping Marina Managers

Case Study - Billing Data Solution

About

In most multi-tenanted markets, the user pays for the energy they consume. This often isn’t the case in marina berths, where utility charges are bundled into berth hire and aren’t representative of the energy used. This blanket charging can lead to tenant inequality and customer dissatisfaction.
Where individual meters are installed, they are typically required to be manually read, recorded and costs calculated and charged, which is laborious, inefficient, expensive, and prone to errors.

Geographical challenges, complex infrastructure and remote and harsh environments can make it difficult and cost prohibitive to find the right billing data solution.

WideSky overcomes these challenges, with its unique wireless mesh architecture, NMI accredited compact utility meters and industrial grade hardware and our AEMO accreditation as Meter Data Provider through VRT Systems.

Our Solution

WideSky have developed a simplified, cloud based, billing data solution designed to meet the complex needs of Marinas.

Solution features and benefits:

  • Cloud-based portfolio solution that supports sites in diverse and remote locations.
  • Compact electricity and water metering with full NMI accreditation, to meet pedestal size constraints.
  • AEMO accredited meter data solution, ensuring customer billing is compliant to energy regulations.
  • Whole of site billing data solution that accommodates all ancillary marina facilities, including shops, maintenance areas and storage sheds.
  • Integration with a range of Marina Management Systems for simplified access to data.
  • Ability to process on the spot transactions through the incumbent Marina Management System.
  • Remote on-off control of power and water supplies for simplified and immediate check-in and check-out at reception, eliminating theft and increasing safety by preventing overloads and leak detection.
  • Real-time status of all pedestal-based assets, accessible anywhere via a mobile device.
  • Remote firmware updates across the wireless network.
  • Robust, self-healing, bank level, wireless mesh infrastructure to accommodate the complex and harsh environment of marinas, where cabling is often not possible.
  • Auto rerouting, eliminating all total system communications failures.
  • Onsite data storage to ensure data is never lost.

Implementation

For simplified implementation, factory commissioning is completed in the pedestal manufacturer’s workshop. Sites can be commissioned remotely, a significant benefit derived from the use of the autonomous, mesh nature of the WideSky Hub network.

This packaged, turnkey solution has been in use since 2019 and adopted by Tasport, Shell Cove, Sydney Super Yacht Marina, Marina Mirage and Gold Coast City Marina. These sites typically support 70 to 100 customers with practically unlimited growth capacity.
